BlackBerry's new phone in India and it costs a cool Rs.1 lakh

On Friday, Canadian smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry launched the Porsche Design P'9983 smartphone, which has a body made of graphite. The phone, like other Porsche Design models of the company, is exorbitantly priced at Rs 99,990.

"With the launch of the new P'9983 Graphite from BlackBerry, we bring a unique stylish smartphone combined with the superior productivity and ultimate security experience of BlackBerry 10 technology for our Indian consumers. This new smartphone is custom-built for power professionals," said Hitesh Shah, director -- sales and distribution, at BlackBerry India.

BlackBerry claims that the phone is a result of its partnership with Porsche,  and the Porsche Design team has designed and engineered the phone.

"The iconic styling of the new P'9983 Graphite from BlackBerry is technically inspired with longevity, integrity, and individuality at its core" says Roland Heiler, chief design officer of the Porsche Design Group, "and it will offer a new way to express individual style with the luxury of being one step ahead."

The phone comes with an unique PIN, which is intended just for BlackBerry's Porsche Design users and said to be a key differentiator.

Apart from this, it is basically a pretty standard BlackBerry smartphone running the BlackBerry 10 operating system.

It is powered by a two-year-old Qualcomm Snapdragon S4Pro dual-core CPU and comes with 2GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The phone also has a microSD card expansion slot.

It has a 3.1-inch display with a unique square 720 x 720 pixel resolution. This is also paired with a full QWERTY keyboard, a hallmark of BlackBerry smartphones.

The phone packs in a 2,100mAh battery and a 8-megapixel camera on the back. There's also a 2-megapixel camera on the front.

Bucking the trend of super slim smartphones, the Porsche Design P'9883 is chubby at 10.1mm and weighs 140 grams.

BlackBerry will also throw in a bunch of exclusive accessories with the device. This will include a international charging kit, a premium headphone, a polishing cloth and a high speed USB transfer cable.
