Microsoft Lumia 840 tipped to arrive soon as Lumia 830 discontinued

The sequel to Microsoft's budget model Lumia 830 could arrive earlier than expected.

Unveiled alongside the Lumia 735 and the Lumia 730 dual SIM at the IFA trade show last year with an affordable price tag, the production of the Lumia 830 has been discontinued in countries like India.

It might still be available in stores but stocks will not be replenished, reportsNokiaPowerUser after receiving information from its sources.

This follows Microsoft's plans to launch Lumia 830's successor, dubbed Lumia 840, in the coming months. The new device will run Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 or, GDR2 out-of-box. This would be unlike Microsoft's next flagship smartphone, Lumia 940, which would be powered with the new Windows 10 for phones operating system.

The Lumia 840 is expected to bring significant improvement over the Lumia 830 in the hardware. The latter lacked a powerful processor and a higher resolution camera.

The new Lumia model is expected to support dual SIM and a 13-14 megapixel camera featuring PureView technology.

The screen size of the device is likely to be around 5in. It is expected to use a better processor and sport a design similar to that of the Lumia 830 or slightly modified. These specs are subject to change, according to reports.
