No Wi-Fi Sense shared Feature Now

Windows 10 Mobile Insider Preview build 14342 also removes Wi-Fi Sense shared wireless networks functionality




If you paid attention to the news around Windows 10 Insider Preview build 14342, one of the more interesting aspects was that Microsoft removed the rather unpopular feature where Wi-Fi credentials were shared between contacts. Because mobile users are unlikely to be any more fond of the feature, and because Microsoft doesn’t want to foot the bill for maintaining that functionality on phones either, Windows 10 Mobile Insider build 14342 follows lockstep with PCs in removing that Wi-Fi Sense functionality as well.

Here’s Microsoft’s statement:

 Just like we noted for Build 14342 for PC, we have removed the Wi-Fi Sense feature that allows you to share Wi-Fi networks with your contacts and to be automatically connected to networks shared by your contacts. The engineering effort to keep this working great, combined with low demand for the feature made it not worthwhile to keep investing in it. Wi-Fi Sense, if enabled, will continue to get you connected to open Wi-Fi hotspots that it knows about through crowdsourcing.

So, love it or hate it, that feature is no more going forward for Windows Insiders, and will be removed for all Windows 10 Mobile users when the Anniversary Update arrives this summer. Let us know in the comments if you think this is a good or bad move.
