What do you think of the Lumia design language?

Previously prior to Nokia’s design division being acquired by Microsoft in 2014, the Lumia line had a varied and lively design language.

The 920 was different from the 820 which differed from the 720 and so on.

This diversity has eventually begun to slowly erode in 2014. The Lumia 630 and 930, both released in July 2014 each had a design that was reminiscent of Microsoft’s surface line with squared off corners and in the case of the 930, a metal band.

The Lumia 830 shared the same design as the 930, albeit thinner and lighter and the 730 inheriting the classic fabula design.

There was one more Lumia phone but I think the world would be much better off if we just pretended it didn’t happen.

Following that, the next main Lumias launched were the Microsoft branded 535, 540, 640 and 640 XL all shared the same design cues as the 930 and 630 before them. Each one had squared off edges reminiscent of the surface, polycarbonate shells with removable batteries and SD slots and software buttons. In effect creating a design that can be best described as “generic Lumia”, a far cry from the 2012 stable.

If the leaks are to be believed, the (revamped)Lumia 550 and 950 are going to inherit the same design Microsoft describes as “pure and bold geometry with perfect dimensions” as well. The only real question left here is what does the community think of this new design language being used on every device.
