Motorola Moto X Play to launch in India on Sept 14

Motorola will likely launch the Moto X Play in India on September 14. According to a web page teaser put up by Flipkart -- the page was first spotted by Android Authority and since then has been changed -- revealed a countdown timer that showed the phone will go on sale in India at 2PM on September 14.

The phone's imminent launch is also being teased by Motorola India through its social media accounts though no date has been revealed officially so far. But with Flipkart, which is Motorola's retail partner in India, putting up the product page on the website, it is clear that the Motorola Moto X Play is coming on September 14.

The Motorola Moto X Play is a midrange device and compared to the earlier Moto X phones looks slightly underpowered in terms of hardware. However, it attempts to woo consumers not by offering them top hardware but features like all-day battery and water-repellent coating.

The Moto X Play is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, which has 8-cores. It has 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage and support for microSD card. Just like the new Moto G (3rd gen), the Moto X Play is a somewhat chubby phone with thickness of over 10mm. But the chubbiness is also probably the result of big 3630 mAh battery inside the phone.

The Moto X Play has a 5.5-inch screen with 1080P aka FullHD resolution. Another big highlight of the device is its rear camera that uses a 21-megapixel image sensor. The phone has a 5-megapixel front camera. Just like other Moto devices, the Play too runs almost pure Android Lollipop.

Usually Motorola is fairly aggressive with the prices of its phones. But theMoto X Play is seems to be a sort of oddball. It belongs to the Moto X series even when its hardware -- except the camera hardware -- is more similar to the what you get in a Moto G series phone. The hardware in the Moto X Play is also similar to the phones that companies like Xiaomi and Lenovo sells in the mainstream Rs.15,000 price bracket. But it is possible that Motorola may price the Moto X Play between Rs.20,000 to Rs.25,000 considering it already has the Moto G (3rd gen) at the Rs.15,000 price bracket.
